At Monarch Academy...

Your child can begin their learning journey even before starting school, in a program that blends the Ontario early years curriculum with the play-based, child-centered approach inspired by Danish pedagogy.

In our early learning program, children are introduced to letters, numbers, sight word recognition, arts and crafts, and pencil-holding skills that support fine motor development. Through guided play and exploration, we foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

In JK, students explore early concepts in math, science, and art, while developing reading skills through the alphabet and phonics. They learn about days, months, seasons, and introductory French through stories, songs, and poems during Circle Time. Learning is enriched through hands-on, nature-based experiences that reflect Danish outdoor learning principles.

Our educators create an environment that encourages student-initiated learning through a balance of play, structured activities, role play, crafts, and early presentation opportunities.

In SK, students build independence and prepare for Grade 1 by strengthening core academic skills. They develop confidence through reading and presenting to peers, while expanding their math skills to include addition, subtraction, and graphing. Science is explored through simple, hands-on experiments using everyday materials, with a focus on safety and responsibility.

Our Grades 1 to 3 program builds a strong academic foundation in mathematics, reading, writing, grammar, science, and social studies while blending the structured expectations of the Ontario curriculum with the child-centered, inquiry-based approach inspired by Danish pedagogy.

In these early years, learning is both rigorous and engaging. The Danish influence emphasizes curiosity, collaboration, and real-world exploration, encouraging students to ask questions, think independently, and develop a genuine love of learning.

This is thoughtfully integrated with Ontario’s academic standards to ensure students meet and exceed grade-level expectations.

Each grade builds progressively on the previous year, deepening understanding and helping students confidently apply their knowledge in meaningful, real-life contexts.

A key feature of our program is personalized learning. We adapt instruction to meet each child at their individual level, ensuring a positive, supportive, and rewarding experience. When a student demonstrates strength in a particular area, we provide enrichment and introduce next-level concepts to keep them challenged and engaged.

At the same time, if a student needs additional support, we revisit foundational concepts to strengthen their understanding. This ensures they can move forward with confidence and successfully meet grade-level outcomes.

Conversational French is introduced through an immersive and interactive approach, using sight word recognition, songs, poems, and short stories to build comfort and fluency in a natural and enjoyable way.
